Mellor
Nook Statement of Purpose
Mellor Nook is owned and run by Mrs Jean Critchlow and her
Two sons John & Jim. Jean and Jim live at the home
(133/135 Moorend Road,
Mellor) and John lives near by at Disley. Mellor Nook was opened in April 1988
following Jeans ten-year career providing home care and working within a psycho
geriatric hospital. Over the next
sixteen years Jean used her experience to guide her family and staff in the
working and running of Mellor Nook. This initial experience and in-house
training has recently been backed up by the introduction of N.V.Q.s (National
vocational Qualifications). Mellor Nook has fully embraced these Qualifications
and encourages all the staff to achieve as higher level as possible. Aside from
the Owner/Managers the day to running of Mellor Nook is down to the staff team
of two deputies, two senior care assistants, nine care assistants, two cooks and
a housekeeper/cleaner.
Mellor Nook has a friendly homely atmosphere caring for
both men and women who are just old and can no longer do all the things that
daily life requires. At Mellor Nook we don’t provide long term nursing care or
specialised care we’re here to provide a safe comfortable environment for
people to maintain a good quality of life in their old age.
Before someone comes to live here with us at Mellor Nook
there are certain things we need to know. We have to make an initial assessment
of the care a prospective resident requires, the type of social
activities/hobbies they enjoy, what religious needs they may have. Also we make
available to them what they can expect from us, by way of our admission
procedure/meeting and residents welcome pack.
Mellor Nook is a “Residential Care Home”
registered with the C.S.C.I. (Commission for Social Care Inspectorate). The sole aim
and objective of the home is to provide a comfortable, safe and caring home
environment for elderly ladies and gentlemen who feel that for reasons of age,
frailty, or simply loneliness they are no longer able to live alone
The home has no bias towards any particular creed, colour
or religion and competent and caring staff are employed in sufficient numbers
during both day and night. Every assistance is given to residents to help them
maintain as full and active life as possible but, where necessary, willing help
is given with personal needs such as washing, dressing, feeding, toilet needs,
etc. the wishes of the residents are always respected, as is their need for
personal privacy. The home is concerned with the mental well being of the
residents as well as the physical well being and to this end gives every
assistance with personal problems. Where a member of staff or management is un
able to deal with a particular problem professional help is sought from outside
of the home, in short, the home provides as homely an environment as possible
with very few rules or regulations where a resident may live happily and in
comfort and safety until the end of his or her days.
The home does not take residents who require constant
nursing care but is able to offer the same care as would be offered by a caring
relative in a residents own home with the support of his or her own Doctor and
the district nursing service. Should a resident become ill he or she would be
nursed by the staff in the home until such times as his or her Doctor felt that
it would be more beneficial for that resident to receive more specialised
nursing care as would be offered by a hospital or specialist nursing home.
